This blog post is based on a comprehensive video review by YouTube creator @DarrellOakdenPhotography. Darrell spent a week testing the GardePro E8 2.0 Pro in various environments—from his garden chicken coop to local woodlands—to see how this WiFi trail camera performs in real-world conditions. All data, field results, and opinions expressed below are credited to his original testing.

Finding a reliable trail camera that balances image quality, connectivity, and power efficiency can be a challenge. In his recent review, Darrell Oakden put the GardePro E8 2.0 Pro to the test. This model is a "Pro" version of the E8 series, boasting several advanced features that aim to make wildlife monitoring more accessible and sustainable.

What’s in the Box?

The GardePro E8 2.0 Pro comes as a complete kit designed for long-term field use. Key components included in the package are:

  • 7,800mAh Lithium-ion Battery: A significant upgrade over standard disposable batteries.
  • Mounting Strap: For securing the unit to trees or posts.
  • Charging Cables: A USB-C to USB-C cable with a USB-A converter.
  • 64GB Full-size SD Card: Ready for high-resolution 4K footage.
  • Optional Solar Panel: Designed to keep the camera charged indefinitely in sunny conditions.

While there is a version of this camera that runs on eight AA batteries, the lithium-ion version tested here is marketed as a more sustainable and cost-effective choice for frequent users.

Key Specifications and Design

The GardePro E8 2.0 Pro is built with a rugged, IP66-rated waterproof housing, capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.

Optics and Sensors

The camera features an F1.6 lens with a 70° field of view. One of its standout hardware features is the triple PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor setup. It includes a front-facing sensor (60°) and two side-facing sensors (30° each), creating a total 120° sensing angle. This allows the camera to "prep" for a trigger before the animal actually enters the frame, ensuring you don't miss the action.

Night Vision

For nighttime monitoring, the E8 2.0 Pro uses 940nm "No Glow" infrared LEDs. Unlike "Low Glow" cameras that emit a faint red light, the No Glow LEDs are completely invisible to the human and animal eye, making it an excellent tool for observing sensitive wildlife or using it as a discreet security trail camera.

WiFi Trail Camera Review: Testing the Connection Range

One of the primary reasons users choose the E8 2.0 Pro is its WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. GardePro claims a transmission distance of up to 50 meters thanks to the dual antennas on top of the unit.

Darrell performed a series of distance tests to see if these claims held up:

  1. 25 Meters: Connecting from his kitchen to a chicken coop, the Live View worked perfectly, allowing him to monitor his poultry without leaving the house.
  2. 45 Meters: Walking away while recording his phone screen, the connection remained stable.
  3. 70 Meters: Surprisingly, Darrell was able to maintain a clear Live View at 70 meters—exceeding the official 50-meter specification—provided there was a clear line of sight.

This range is particularly useful for checking the camera's composition via the app. Instead of opening the waterproof casing and checking the small 2.4-inch internal screen, you can use your phone to ensure the camera is pointed exactly where it needs to be.

Field Performance and Image Quality

The GardePro E8 2.0 Pro captures footage in Full 4K HD. Darrell noted that the video delivered rich colors and clear details, showcasing footage of a rabbit in his garden and a pheasant in the woods.

Audio Quality

The camera includes an internal microphone. In a side-by-side comparison with a professional vlogging camera, the E8 2.0 Pro’s mic performed well, picking up Darrell’s voice clearly even from 10 meters away. However, like most trail cameras, it is sensitive to wind noise, which is something to keep in mind if you are placing it in an exposed area.

Night Vision Results

Testing next to a mouse hole in complete darkness, the infrared capabilities proved their worth. The camera captured clear, high-contrast footage of mice and even a visiting duck. The "No Glow" LEDs ensured that none of the animals were startled by the camera's presence.

Durability and Weatherproofing

To test the IP66 rating, Darrell simulated a "torrential downpour" using a garden hose while the camera was active. After the "hose test," he checked the camera status via the app; everything remained perfectly functional. The locking mechanism and internal seals effectively keep the electronics dry, making it suitable for long-term outdoor deployment in heavy rain.

Power Management: Battery and Solar

The transition to a high-capacity lithium-ion battery is a major selling point for the E8 2.0 Pro.

  • Battery Life: In a real-world test, Darrell left the camera in the woods for two full days with 450 motion activations. The battery dropped by 18%. This indicates the camera can handle high-activity areas for over a week on a single charge without solar assistance.
  • Solar Charging: The solar panel proved highly effective. On a sunny day, it charged the battery from 50% to over 90% in just a few hours. Darrell concludes that with the solar panel connected, the unit could likely stay in the field for weeks or even months without manual recharging.

Real-World Scouting: Two Days in the Woods

Darrell strapped the camera to a small sapling in a wooded area, using a mix of seed and cat food as bait. Although he initially thought he missed out on larger predators based on the app thumbnails, a full review of the 4K footage revealed a brief sighting of a fox alongside numerous pheasants and mice.

The camera's camouflage worked efficiently, making the unit nearly invisible against the bark of the trees, which is vital for both wildlife photography and security.

Conclusion: Final Thoughts on the E8 2.0 Pro

Based on Darrell's week-long test, the GardePro E8 2.0 Pro is a robust and user-friendly WiFi trail camera. Its standout features—the exceeding WiFi range, the sustainable lithium battery, and the invisible night vision—make it a top contender in its price bracket.

Pros:

  • WiFi Range: Exceeded 50m in testing, reaching up to 70m.
  • Sustainability: The rechargeable battery and solar panel combo reduce waste and long-term costs.
  • Ease of Use: The GardePro app is intuitive for Live View and settings adjustments.
  • Build Quality: Reliable IP66 waterproofing.

Cons:

  •  Audio: Susceptible to wind noise (typical for the category).
