Why is My Trail Camera Taking Too Many Blank Photos? (Troubleshooting Guide)

It can be frustrating to find hundreds of blank photos or empty videos on your SD card. In the industry, we call this a "False Trigger."

If your GardePro camera is taking too many photos of nothing, it usually is not a broken camera. Most of the time, it is caused by the environment or your current settings. Follow this simple guide to fix it.

Common Causes (Why it happens)

Your GardePro camera uses a PIR sensor that looks for Heat and Movement. If it sees both, it takes a picture.

  • Moving Plants: Wind blows branches, grass, or leaves. In the sun, these moving plants become "warm," and the camera thinks they are an animal.
  • Sunlight & Water: Direct sunlight hitting the lens or light reflecting off water can "trick" the sensor.
  • Fast Subjects: Sometimes a bird flies by too fast. By the time the camera clicks, the animal is already gone, leaving a blank photo.

How to Fix It (Simple Solutions)

You can stop these unnecessary photos by changing a few things in your GardePro Menu.

  • Adjust Sensitivity: If the wind is strong, your camera is too "sensitive."

Go to Menu ➔ PIR Sensitivity. Change it to "Middle" or "Low."

  • Set a Delay: Tell the camera to "wait" before taking the next photo.

Go to Menu ➔ PIR Interval (or Detection Delay). Change it to 30 Seconds or 1 Minute.

  • Check Placement: Do not face the camera directly toward the rising or setting sun (East or West). Try to clear tall grass or moving branches in front of the lens.

The "Indoor Test" (Is it the Camera?)

If you have tried the steps above and the camera still takes blank photos, try this test:

  1. Take the camera inside your house.
  2. Put it in a dark, quiet room (like a closet) facing a wall.
  3. Leave it for 24 hours.
  4. If the SD card is still empty, the camera is fine—the problem was the wind or sun outside.
