How to troubleshoot condensate, fog, or moisture on the camera lens?

1. Cause Explanation

Lens fogging is a normal physical effect triggered by temperature gap. When the camera’s inner temperature is higher than ambient outside temperature, warm humid internal air will condense into tiny water droplets once touching the cold lens surface. This issue happens frequently in regions with drastic day-night temperature shift and high ambient humidity. Short-term mild condensation will not damage your trail camera, yet persistent heavy damp may shorten the service life of internal electronic parts.

Moisture on camera lens

2. Immediate Troubleshooting for Existing Lens Moisture

  • Put your camera on a dry desktop inside well-ventilated room, leave it stationary for 2–4 hours to let residual moisture evaporate naturally.
  • If natural drying is inefficient, use a hair dryer on low cool/warm air setting to blow dry lens and camera interior. Keep 20–30cm distance between dryer and device; NEVER apply high-temperature hot air, which will burn lens coating and internal circuit components.
  • After full drying, verify all moisture is gone and test photo & video capture functions normally.

3. Long-term Preventive Solutions to Avoid Recurring Fog

  • Equip metal/security protective box: Install camera into protective housing before outdoor mounting. The casing stabilizes rapid ambient temperature fluctuation, narrows internal-external temperature difference and improves overall waterproof & damp-proof performance.
  • Place desiccant packs: Load 1~2 packs of silica gel desiccant inside camera body or protective box to absorb redundant moisture and cut inner air humidity.
  • Optimize installation spot: Fix camera in shaded areas to avoid direct sunshine (overheat in daytime widens temperature difference); adjust mounting angle to prevent cold wind from blowing straight onto the lens.
  • Anti-fog coating treatment: Spray dedicated lens anti-fog liquid (automotive window anti-fog spray is acceptable) externally on lens glass to reduce water droplet adhesion.

4. Replacement Support (If all fixes fail)
