Take a Photo (Diagnostic) Feature Guide

Overview

Take a Photo is an on-demand feature that allows you to remotely request a real-time photo from your camera at any time, so you can instantly see what’s happening in front of it. (Requires an active data plan on a cellular camera.)

With the latest upgrade, Take a Photo (Diagnostic) is more than just a remote photo feature — it is also a visual, step-by-step diagnostic tool that shows exactly what your camera is doing.

Instead of only showing a success or failure result, this feature lets you see the entire process in real time, helping you understand:

  • Whether the camera received your command
  • Where a failure occurred (if any)
  • How your camera and network are performing

It helps you:

  • Reduce uncertainty and waiting
  • Quickly identify issues
  • Troubleshoot problems on your own
  • Avoid repeated or unnecessary actions

How It Works

When you tap Take a Photo (Diagnostic), the system runs a full end-to-end check with 4 steps:

  1. Send Command – The app sends a request to the camera
  2. Camera Takes Photo – The camera captures an image
  3. Uploading Photo – The photo is uploaded via the cellular network
  4. Syncing to App – The photo is delivered and displayed in the app

Each step includes:

  • Real-time status (waiting / in progress / success / failed)
  • Time duration (live counting)
  • Clear result messages

If a step fails:

  • The process stops immediately
  • The failed step is clearly marked in red
  • You will see a simple explanation and suggested action

How to Use

Step 1: Open the Feature

  • Go to any tab in the camera view: Live, Status, Settings, or Gallery
  • Tap the “More” (⋯) button on the right side of the status bar
  • Select Take a Photo (Diagnostic)

Step 2: Start Diagnostic

  • A popup will appear showing: Running Diagnostic…
  • 4-step progress list
  • The diagnostic will begin automatically.

Step 3: Monitor the Process

  • Each step updates in real time:
    • 🟠 In progress
    • 🟢 Success
    • 🔴 Failed
    • ⚪ Not started
  • You can:
    • Tap the exit button in the top-right corner (the diagnostic will continue in the background).
    • Tap the floating icon to reopen it anytime

Step 4: View Results

  • If successful:
    • You will see Diagnostic Completed
    • The captured photo will be displayed (tap to view)
  • If failed:
    • You will see Diagnostic Failed
    • The exact step and reason will be highlighted

Step 5: Run Again

  • Tap Run Again to retry the diagnostic anytime
  • The latest result is saved and can be reviewed later

  • Camera Status: Confirm whether your camera is functioning properly
  • Error Diagnosis: Identify issues such as SD card errors, system problems, or command failures
  • Network Quality:
    • Slow upload = weak signal
    • Upload failure = unstable connection

This feature is available on cellular trail cameras with Live View support, including but not limited to:

  • X60 Pro Max
  • X66 Pro
  • X66 Pro Max

Requirements

  • Make sure your app is updated to the latest version
  • Both new app + compatible firmware are required for full diagnostic experience

Compatibility notes:

  • Older app or firmware → will use the traditional Take a Photo flow
  • Latest app + latest firmware → full diagnostic mode enabled
