Can the Camera Work Without an SD Card?

No. The camera must have storage available to save photos and videos.

Most models require a user-installed SD card. However, some models with “MB” in the model name, such as the E8PMB, have a built-in, non-removable SD card. These models do not support adding another SD card.

Recommended SD Card

The SD card you use can affect the camera’s ability to read data and save photos and videos reliably. Unbranded cards, microSD cards used with adapters, or cards previously used in other devices may cause reading or recording issues.

For the best performance, we recommend using an SD card with the following specifications:

  • Card Type: Standard-size SDHC or SDXC
  • Speed Class: Class 10
  • Maximum Capacity: 512 GB

For the best balance of performance and value, we recommend a GardePro or SanDisk 32GB or 64GB SDHC Class 10 SD card.

How to Format the SD Card

Before using the SD card for the first time, insert it into the camera and format it through the camera menu:

Menu → Format SD Card

Formatting the card in the camera before first use helps ensure compatibility and reliable operation.
