Why is my camera not recognized when connected to my computer?

Issue Description

When connecting your trail camera to a computer using a USB cable, the computer does not recognize the camera. No external drive or removable disk appears.

Possible Causes and Solutions

Use a USB Cable That Supports Data Transfer

Many USB cables are charging-only and do not support data transfer.

Please try a different USB cable that you know supports data transfer.

For Windows Users

After a successful connection:

• Open This PC or File Explorer.
• Check whether the camera's SD card appears as a Removable Disk.
• Double-click the drive to access your photos and videos.

If the camera still does not appear, try the following:

• Use a different USB port.
• Restart your computer and reconnect the camera.
• Open Device Manager and check for any unknown devices or devices with a warning icon.

For Mac Users

After a successful connection, the camera's SD card should appear on your desktop or in the Finder sidebar, usually as "NO NAME" or "Removable Disk."

If it does not appear, try the following:

• Open Finder → Settings (or Preferences) → General and make sure External disks is selected to show external drives on the desktop.
• Go to Finder → Settings (or Preferences) → Sidebar and make sure External disks is checked.
• Try a different USB port.
• Restart your Mac and reconnect the camera.

Make Sure the Camera Is Powered On and in USB Mode

After connecting the USB cable:

• Turn the camera switch to ON.
• Check the camera screen.
• The screen should display "Card Reader", indicating that the camera is ready to transfer data.

Important: If the "Card Reader" message does not appear, the computer may not be able to access the camera's SD card.

Try an SD Card Reader

If the camera is still not recognized after trying a different USB cable, we recommend removing the SD card and using a standalone SD card reader to access your files.

This is generally the most reliable method for transferring photos and videos from the SD card.
