How to Update Firmware on WiFi Trail Cameras with Built-in Storage

Updated on Dec 23, 2025

Due to compatibility differences with iPhone 17 models, some WiFi trail cameras may experience Live View issues when connecting to the mobile app.

The camera firmware has been updated to address this issue.

For cameras with built-in storage, this update must be completed using a USB connection to a computer.

Even if you haven’t experienced any issues, you can follow this guide to update your camera.

Please follow the steps below carefully to complete the firmware update.

Supported Models (Built-in Storage)

This guide applies only to the following models with built-in storage:
E6PMB, E8PMB, E9PMB

What You Will Need

  • A computer (Windows recommended)
  • Batteries with sufficient power or a stable external power source
  • A USB cable (included in the package)
  • The correct firmware file (.img) for your camera model

Step-by-Step Firmware Update Guide

Step 0 — Check Your Current Firmware Version (Very Important)

⚠️ Before downloading any firmware, you MUST confirm your camera’s current firmware version.

Different hardware platforms use different firmware branches:

  • V6.xx firmware → can ONLY be upgraded to V6.xx
  • V8.xx firmware → can ONLY be upgraded to V8.xx
  • V6.xx and V8.xx firmware are NOT compatible and cannot be mixed

Installing the wrong firmware version may cause the camera to malfunction.

How to check your firmware version:

  1. Power on the camera.
  2. Go to MENU → Settings → Version.
  3. Check the Firmware Version displayed (V6.xx or V8.xx).

Step 1 — Download the Firmware

  1. Download the firmware file that matches your camera model.
  2. Save the file to your computer.

Notes:

  • The firmware file will be named xxxx.img.
  • The .img file is in binary format and cannot be opened — this is normal.
  • If your computer shows a warning such as “This file may harm your device”, you can safely ignore it.

Step 2 — Power Off the Camera

  1. Turn the camera power switch to OFF.
  2. Make sure the camera is fully powered down.

Step 3 — Connect the Camera to Your Computer

  2. Keep the camera powered OFF at this stage.

Step 4 — Enter Firmware Copy Mode

  1. Press and hold the MENU button.
  2. While holding MENU, move the power switch from OFF → ON.
  3. The camera screen will display: “Please copy the firmware file to internal memory. After copying the firmware, press Ok”
  4. Release the MENU button.
Enter Copy Mode

Step 5 — Copy the Firmware File

  1. On your computer, open the camera’s built-in SD card storage.
  2. Copy the downloaded xxxx.img file directly to the root directory.

Notes:

  • Do not rename the file.
  • Do not place it inside any folder.
  • The file cannot be opened — just copy or move it to the camera storage.
